ふちなしのかがみ 辻村深月 感想

“Mirror Without Edges” by Mizuki Tsujimura

It was a collection of horror-flavored short stories!

The following contains spoilers and thoughts!

■Hanako on the Landing
Was it Hanako from the beginning?
I never expected someone to be impersonating her!
Because of that, Professor Aikawa had to lie in front of Hanako…
Is there anyone who could break this combination?
Well, in this case, they lie because they have something to feel guilty about, right?

■Legs That Swing the Swing
Was it a curse after all?
Was it not Miri-chan who was moving Cupid?
Hmm, it seems Miri-chan wanted to quit being Cupid, so there might have been times when she moved it herself and times when a ghost really did move it…

■Daddy, I Have a Wish
It was a bit of a complicated story…
Was the corpse in the end human?
Or a mouse?
What about the delivery man who was killed?
Where did the buried corpse go?
Was a significant part of it a dream?
Or is there something I’m missing…?

■Mirror Without Edges
I thought Kanako was a woman in her early twenties, but she was already married with a child!
And what I thought were hallucinations were actually her real daughter…
And then, she kills her daughter…
Was the mirror without edges the root of all evil?
Or was Kanako mentally disturbed from the beginning…?

■Cataclysm in August
I thought it was the incarnation of a cicada!
A real person was pretending to be Yu-chan!
Since the stories up to that point were horror-themed, I thought this one would be too, but there were no ghosts?
Still, Yu-chan’s disappearance was mysterious…
And the person pretending to be Yu-chan seemed very frail, almost too ill to live a normal life, right?
So, that Yu-chan…

The chilling sensation of horror is really something!
