Bibliotheca Antique Bookshop Case Files 6 – The Fate That Shioriko and I Traverse
En Mikami

One revelation after another!

The following includes spoilers and my thoughts on them!

So, it turns out that Shioriko’s grandfather was also solving mysteries surrounding antique books! And his son married Chieko, leading to Shioriko’s birth. Chieko is still better at solving mysteries, but will Shioriko eventually become faster at it?

It seems like many who love old books don’t shy away from committing crimes…? There seem to be many characters in the story who wouldn’t hesitate to steal from others or resort to violence to satisfy their own desires. Is it just because Shioriko and her team solve cases related to antique books that it seems this way? However, since Shioriko and her team primarily operate in Kita-Kamakura, is it just that the area has many people who commit crimes? Could there be some secret behind this…? But then again, without crimes, there would be no mysteries to solve. Perhaps it’s just the nature of the genre?

Was Toshio Tanaka desperately seeking family? He seemed quite hesitant when he found out that Mr. Goiura was Toshio Tanaka’s grandson. Perhaps Toshio Tanaka felt very lonely…

The knowledge of those who love old books is incredible! More like aficionados of old authors, perhaps? Maybe it’s because they are fans, they want to collect anything related to those authors?

Do those who love old books not read newer ones? While long-beloved works have their merits for being cherished over time, there are surely good works among newer books as well, right? Aren’t there any current authors who attract them? Or, is this related to copyright and legal issues? I’m not sure which laws might be involved, but maybe recent novels cannot be featured in the story? If special permission is granted, it might be possible. Perhaps considering cases where permission cannot be obtained, only works by deceased authors or those published a long time ago can be featured in the novel?

Ah, right. It’s because they’re rare and thus have a premium value, right? Something becomes valuable because it’s old and scarce, and you can’t just make something “old and scarce” that’s new. So if someone already owns it, resorting to theft or threats might be the only way…

Did Chieko quietly provide help? Is she supporting from the shadows? Now that I think about it, what is the antique book Chieko is looking for? Will it be revealed in the next volume or later?
